summer in the driveway

as much as I would love to be able to take miles to the pool everyday, the reality of packing up a five month old AND a two year old to venture on a 10 minute walk sometime between the end of henry's morning nap and the start of lunch...on my own...is a little daunting. lucky for us, miles is completely entertained by the toys in our own backyard! he received this darling butterfly pool last year for his birthday and we are loving the umbrella it has to cover up sensitive baby skin. it makes for some goofy green photos...but oh well.

here is evidence that my first born did not inherit my pasty white, er I mean porcelain, skin tone. it's barely a week into summer and he's already three shades darker than me. keep in mind that this kiddo never steps foot outside without a minimum 30SPF...he can thank his daddy for those genes! and then there are henry's irresistibly soft, pudgy baby toes. I love how he props them up on the stroller and then hoists them up into his hands so he can chew on them. it's too much.

we packed up a little picnic and headed out to the driveway, because that's how we roll. sandwiches, veggies, fruit, and milk make for the perfect picnic basket lunch. miles prefers to pick the cheese off of his sandwich and then try to snatch it out of mine. silly little boy.

sure, I know that the driveway doesn't seem like the greatest of all places to lay a baby, but henry doesn't mind. any place that he can lay and watch miles is a good place. I love to watch his little arms and legs stiffen out with excitement as miles gently kneels down and says hi henry! and then goes on to explain in great detail what he's doing - I'm going swimming henry. this is my owie henry. I fell down on go-go's sidewalk henry. hi henry! I give you kiss. muuuuah! it is pure bliss, these late-morning ventures to our driveway. I'm so glad that summer is just beginning and we will get to enjoy many more days just like this.

rochesterfest 2010

if you are a fellow "rochester-ite" you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say rochesterfest - it's a big 'ol week long celebration for all things rochester...er...um...actually I would say it's just a big week of eating a variety of terrible-for-you-but-oh-so-yummy food (read: fair food). henry and I met up with beth, seth, and josiah for lunch on tuesday. we somehow managed to score the ONLY picnic table in the shade (thank you beth!) and proceeded to pig out on some delicious philly sandwiches, mini donuts, and ice cream. oh how I love summer! henry thoroughly enjoyed munching on his toes the entire time.

wednesday night was the free kids fair downtown. it wasn't exactly the most fabulous of rides and activities, but hey, it was free! miles enjoyed the face-painting (he calls it his joe mauer baseball), the build your own garden, and did not so much enjoy the opportunity to spray the fire hose. c'mon kid, who wouldn't love to spray a pretend fire while two other kids are doing the same and a large crowd of people is watching...my kid, that's who! he completely freaked out when he got up to the fireman and kyle tried to set him down. maybe next year. the weather was absolutely perfect. 70 degrees, sunny, and breezy. we were able to wear jeans and sweatshirts with our flip flops...that is my favorite! I'm not sure if we'll venture down there for one more funnel cake or have to wait for the county fair...but whatever the case may be, I know we all ate our fair share this year!

happy father's day

I think it would be an understatement to say that kyle is a great daddy. I have been in awe since the day that miles was born at how naturally becoming a dad was to him. now that we have two boys, it has only gotten better. he can't wait for them to get up in the morning and makes all the time in the world to just sit and play with both of them. if kyle has left for work before miles wakes up, all I hear is "where's daddy?" and the way miles' face lights up when kyle walks in the door would melt anyone's heart. henry gives his daddy such a big gummy grin and loves to giggle at him when he makes funny noises. I know that kyle will never let a day go by when he doesn't tell the boys that he loves them and that he's proud of them. for that, I am certain they will grow up to be better human beings. what a gift. so here's to all the daddies out there. thank you for loving your little ones. you are important!
