the first week

I realize that I'm way behind on blogging these first weeks at home with henry. I will do my best to catch up and then stay on top of things. however, as a new mom of two...I make no promises. the other day I didn't manage to get a shower and finally brushed my teeth at 5 pm. my only hope to get blogging done is either during nap time (if the boys' schedules are in sync) or in the evening when kyle is here (usually this is when I zonk on the couch). I promise to try harder from this point forward! so without further ado:

henry's first week home was fairly uneventful. we only ventured out into the cold snowy weather three times - twice to go to the doctor to check his jaundice and the third to meet auntie nykkole.
headed to the doctor
meeting auntie nykkole
nana & papa with their three grandsons!

other than that, we have basically stayed put and let people come to us. it sure is different toting two kiddos around. kyle took off two weeks so he's been home filling the role as toddler daddy. it's difficult because I'm unable to lift miles. I will have to teach him to get out of his crib. more on that at a later date. henry is a pretty chill baby boy. he is nursing well and typically eats about 7-8 times per day. he naps well during the day, but tends to get fussy in the evenings. so far he is a great sleeper at night - eating around 11pm, then up once at 3 or 4am, and back up around 8am. we'll see if this continues! he does NOT like to be naked and will certainly let you know when he is unhappy. as soon as he has a t-shirt back on, he's a quiet and happy camper.
t-shirt = happy boy
we are treasuring each and every moment with him as a newborn. having miles has made us realize just how fast this time flies by. I love snuggling with him on the couch and even love seeing him in the middle of the night. he is a precious little boy and we feel incredibly blessed to be his mommy & daddy.
taking a nap with daddy
nana came to stay over - henry basically slept WITH her all night...she was in heaven!
hungry!
wide awake
learning to cyber with daddy & miles
streeeeetch
getting his hair washed
sweet baby
this hardly looks like him...but I love it!
looks like he's telling a story
this is what we have dubbed "the henry face"

welcome home henry

we were released from the hospital on january 29th at about 2pm. miles was home napping with auntie jen. we had a relaxing evening and enjoyed the treats that my mom delivered. cake is never turned down in this house! henry settled right in and had no problem waking up frequently to eat and get a clean diaper...see photo below. we are sleeping him in a small bassinet next to our bed. this makes the first few weeks so much easier on me. let's be honest, kyle never once got up with miles and will probably do the same with henry. he just doesn't have the equipment to feed babies!
tinker had to sniff the new arrival
nana came to cuddle with henry and play with miles
tuckered out from a busy day
cake...good.
snuggled up in the bassinet
gotta love the cheeks
this was after ONE night. yes. that is 9 diapers. pampers loves us
such a helper!

jaundice? me??

henry had a bout with jaundice that required numerous blood draws and multiple trips to the clinic. the poor guy has 4 holes in each heel. we are happy to report that as of yesterday his billirubin levels are falling and we have the "all clear" from the doctors.
do my eyes look yellow to you?
warm and cozy...now would be when the nurse says "undress him down to a dry diaper"...so cruel.

henry's hospital stay

I'm very aware of the lack of postings since henry arrived. I apologize profusely! we are feeling the "busy-ness" of being parents to two children. we've taken hundreds of pictures, but have had little to no time to get downstairs to download them all. I will do my best to keep this "brief"...riiiiight. we spent tuesday, january 26th to friday, january 29th in the hospital. while it seemed like too long to be away from miles, it was definitely a needed time to rest for me. the c-section went very smoothly. it was a complete 180 from miles' delivery. most notably the fact that I was able to stay awake for the entire procedure! last time I was contemplating sleeping through the birth of my first child...after 15 hours of labor, I was exhausted. this time I went into the OR alert and prepared for what was about to happen. in the end, my healing time has been reduced exponentially! I feel fantastic, but I'm taking it easy and accepting all of the wonderful help that people have offered.

we had many visitors in the hospital and a few here at home too. it's fun to share henry with all of our family and friends.
we headed home on friday, january 29th. henry was all decked out in a new outfit. he didn't seem to mind the car seat and, thanks to lots of blankets, never really noticed the subzero temps!
